0:00:05.9 Kiera Dent: Hey everyone, welcome to the Dental A Team podcast. I'm your host Kiera Dent, and I have this crazy idea that maybe I could combine a doctor and a team member's perspective, because let's face it, dentistry can be a challenging profession with those two perspectives. I've been a dental assistant, treatment coordinator, scheduler, biller, office manager, regional manager, practice owner, and I have a team of traveling consultants where we have traveled over 165 different offices coaching teams. Yep, we don't just understand you, we are you. Our mission is to positively impact the world of dental, and I believe that this podcast is the greatest way I can help elevate teams, grow VIP experiences, reduce stress, and create A team. Welcome to the Dental A Team podcast.

0:00:51.1 KD: Hello Dental A Team listeners, this is Kiera and you guys! I hope today's killer. I hope you're having a good time over there. I hope that you are just rocking and rolling. I hope today is just a glorious day for you. All right guys, it has been a hot minute and I was thinking about this one today before I got on. Guys, sometimes I just get on and rift. That's real life. So many people have asked me that. "So Kiera, do you like script out your podcast?" And I'm like, "Oh guys, you clearly do not know Kiera Dent." The answer is no. Do I have a list and topics and ideas? The answer is yes. Do I sometimes think about them? Most of the time, yeah. But do I have ideas like today? No, not all the time. So guys, this is a special one. It's really not, but it's so valuable because guys, I want you to be avid learners. You listen to the podcast, so you clearly are invested in yourself, but really today I feel like it's been a hot minute since we've done a book club. All right guys, I am obsessed with Audible. I used to hate it. And I actually just had some doctors. I was at their practice and you guys, I listened to everything on at least two times the speed.

0:02:03.1 KD: Right now the book that I'm listening to, I have my audible pulled up. It's at 2.5. It was at three, but I toned it down 'Cause I was trying to fall asleep and I couldn't quite fall asleep with three. But the doctor, she told me, she was like, "Kiera, thank you so much for showing us two times the speed." She's like, shockingly, I actually paid attention better than I do at one times the speed. That is my secret guys. That is actually why I listened to them on rapid fire because that way I will pay attention and get more out of it. If I'm trying to take notes, I will slow it down, but truthfully that's why I actually have them going so quickly. So guys, I hope you're ready. Today is going to be a podcast on book club of my current library for you guys. If you have not heard the other ones, go snag them. I try every so often to share the books that I'm reading, the books that I'm loving, books of just expansion, because I truly feel more gold is mined in the minds of men than from the earth.

0:03:00.0 KD: And so if... And let's be real, it's men and women guys. It's not just one, one there. But you guys, I would just encourage you to take on a challenge, read at least one book a month. I know we have a gal in our company and she is on a mission to read a hundred books this year, which I think is amazing. So really, truly just try it. So today it's going to be a total, I don't know, it's a smorgasbord today guys of books. 'Cause I'm all over the map of the different books that I read. I'm going to share with you guys some fiction books, some development books, books that have been shared with others. Most of these I have read. I will tell you if I have not read them, but every single book today is coming from well-known trusted sources who are recommending them. And a lot of these are my getting teed up, excited for.

0:03:48.5 KD: So the first book that I want to share, I think I shared it last time, but it is absolutely noteworthy to come back on. And that is Effortless by Greg McCowan. Effortless, I'm reading it for the second time. The reason I love this book so much is because it talks about how to live life effortlessly. He wrote the book Essentialism, which if you have not read that one, another one of my... I'm telling you, these are like in my top 10 life-changing books, Essentialism and Effortless. Because I just love how life does not have to be hard. And I really love how Greg breaks it down in his book about starting with the simplest step. And so I've been applying that to different things in our company. Like what is the absolute first step to make this easy and attainable. So highly, highly, highly recommend Effortless and Essentialism by Greg McCowan. Phenomenal books.

0:04:42.3 KD: Who Not How by Dan Sullivan. Really great idea behind who should you hire, not how should you get things done and really benefiting on leveraging talent rather than trying to figure it out on your own. So I think in today's world where hiring has become extremely tricky, this one really helps you think in a different way of who could we outsource? What could we do differently? What are some different ways? I mean, there's call sources, there's call companies, there's online resources. There's so many different things, but who out there could do this for you? There's freelancers, guys. There's so many different resources at our fingertips. So I really loved that.

0:05:24.7 KD: Another book, Patrick Lencioni always comes up of a great one. And this is The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive. So diving into what it's like to be an extraordinary executive and The Four Obsessions. I love anything Patrick Lencioni. He's very short, very easy to understand, very, very fable-ish, which Five Dysfunctions of Teams is another one of his books. He's really big on the motive. So just a lot of great books. The Advantage. I think Patrick Lencioni, pretty much anything by him is going to be amazing. For your treatment coordinators out there, Ninja Selling by Larry Kendall, talking about the art of selling. And I know we often don't like to think about it. Dentists as well, great book on how can we present treatment plans? Because at the end of the day, we are presenting a service that is being quote-unquote sold, which I know everybody feels icky around it. But really, I think when you can own it and see different ways to help more patients say yes, just a fun book for you guys out there.

0:06:31.0 KD: It might not resonate with any of you and it might resonate with a lot of you. But again, my job is to provide, I think, excellent resources, make you think differently, push you out of your comfort zone. So another great book for you. Another one on leadership is the Toyota Way to Lean Leadership by Jeffrey Liker and Gary Convis. Fantastic. Just really thinking, Toyota leadership and lean leadership is just a really different way of running your practices. And so if you're wanting to figure out how can I lean this up, how can I make my practice run better with leadership? So office managers, leads, doctors, I think this is a really, really fantastic book. If you guys happen to attend our Dental A Team Summit, which if you missed it, it's okay, guys, it's coming back. We're doing 2023. Dental A Team's third summit will be in April. So put it on your calendars, guys. This is a sneak peek tease. April 28th and 29th is Dental A Team's virtual summit. It will be virtual. People have asked, but guys, I have a surprise and I'm doing it virtual again, which is why it's going virtual and it's going to be freaking rad.

0:07:41.6 KD: So mark it on your calendars. We will be starting to have that open and available, but I want you guys to block it. Full team day on Friday, leadership on Saturday. But the reason I bring this up is because this year, Dr. Lewis Chen, who has opened a bajillion practices in two years, was the reason that I actually looked into Toyota Way to Lean Leadership because he runs his practices that way and the way that man operates, I was beyond inspired by. And so just wanting to have you guys thinking that way.

0:08:13.3 KD: Hello Dental A Team listeners. This is Kiera and you guys, how was your 2022? I want you to look back and tell me, was it the year of years? Or was it a really hard year? Did you crush it? Or did it crush you? This is the time guys for end of year Dental A Team Platinum is welcoming you where we will physically fly to your practice. We will come and we will elevate your dreams and make them into a reality. And guys, space is limited and prices are going up. This is not a sales pitch. This is not something where I'm trying to scare you into it. I'm just facing the reality of inflation is here, flights are expensive and I want to see as many people as we possibly can and serve as many as we can. So if you want to be part of our elite group of people, there are limited spaces because our consultants can only see as many. We are taking on 10 new platinum offices by the end of the year and that's it. That's all we have space for.

0:09:11.4 KD: So if you want to be one of the elite 10, come join us. Be a part of our top notch elite doctor community. Be a part of our office manager and hygiene and front office communities. Get your operations manual done and live the life that you've only been dreaming of today. Email me [email protected] and make 2023 truly a year that's unforgettable. We are a complete tax write off. And like I said, we are only taking 10 offices. So don't get left behind. Be one of those 10 and I cannot wait to give you the biggest, warmest welcome to completely and utterly changing your life for good. Welcome to the Dental A Team. I can't wait for you to join us [email protected] cheers to 2023 and making you your best self yet.

0:09:57.2 KD: Another book for you guys. If you're thinking about membership plans and how to have your practice generate revenue in a different way. The Automatic Customer by John, I have no idea, Warrillow. Sorry, John, if I botched it, but The Automatic Customer has been a really fascinating book for me to read. Just in thinking of how... Like think about Amazon Prime guys, we are, most of us are automatic customers where there's no way we could ever live life without Prime. It's on renewal, and they're not having to come after us year after year after year and make another sell. So similarly, membership plans and dental practices are a way for you to have an automatic customer, have patients there that are not on insurance plans. So I loved this book to help you guys think in how can you have your patients be automatic customers with a membership model. Now, some of you might feel like, "Kiera that's icky. I don't like thinking in that way." Fantastic. This book's not for you. But for a membership model, which I will say, and I'm going to say it today, and then I can't wait when I get back on the podcast in a couple of years and say, "Guys, remember that episode I told you about," this will be the one I believe that membership plans will be the future of private practice.

0:11:14.8 KD: And so I would say get on the bandwagon and figure out how to have a membership program that is really rocking and rolling and that patients are in your practice because they love the community of you, they love what they get from being a member of your practice. So that's why I wanted to recommend the automatic customer, because I think it helps you guys just think in ways that are unconventional. And guys, dentistry is kind of becoming a little stagnant. And so being first to innovate and thinking outside the box is going to be, I feel, really crucial in years to come. All right. Another book, The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. Guys, this one has been recommended a bajillion times and I thought it was dumb. It's great. There's I think it's a good reminder of the energy we bring. I think this is a really, really, really fantastic book to read as a full team. So if you're looking for a team book, you guys can buy it. It's a great end of year idea. But just have everybody read it. I think this book, Crucial Conversations, two good books that I like for teams that I think can just open up conversations.

0:12:25.6 KD: So if you want it, it's a great team builder. I would recommend before giving it to your team, maybe you should read it first and then roll it out to your team. But I feel like book clubs as a team could be a really fun thing if you're looking for it, Yes, Dental A team is looking to possibly start a book club. Email in guys, if you want us to do an actual book club. I've been thinking about pulling it on the podcast, thinking about our Facebook group, but having it to where we have active discussion. So if you are interested and you would want to do it, email me [email protected]. That way I can check interest to see if it's even something of value for you guys. But doing it similarly in your practice, I think would be something fun. All right. Next book recommendation for all of my business owners out there. This is also great for team members, too, but it's Rich Dads, Retire Young Retire Rich by Robert Kiyosaki. I think is how we say it.

0:13:16.1 KD: This one makes me think radically different of how can I invest now to retire younger and not necessarily retire, but to have more time in my life. So you feel like this is just if you are wanting to think differently, if you're wanting a different perspective on life, if you're wanting to think differently about how you operate your business, I feel like this is a really fantastic book for you. So try it out. It's great for team members.

0:13:42.4 KD: I have another really solid book. All right. Personality Isn't Permanent. Another great one. Maybe for some harder team members for some people who feel like, "Well, that's just my personality." I think this is a really great book to to just think about your life differently that it's not permanent and that you can really grow, and you can evolve, and you can change. And when did you decide that this is your personality. So again, another another great, great book. Guys, I have so many on here. All right, the next one. This one I'm like leery. This is why I thought about this podcast today, ou guys. This was what it was for because I want to recommend a book, but I feel like this one could be offensive. And I thought about my mom listening in and I'm like, "Oh, mama." I'm recommending a book that is very explicitive.

0:14:40.1 KD: So I will say if that bothers you, which I'm sure it would bother my mom so much. You might not want to read this book, but it has been one of my favorite books that I read. And it is the Subtle Art of Not Giving an F by Mark Manson. Fair warning, he has probably said the F word about a hundred times and I'm not all the way through the book. So that's why I got really nervous. I was like, but I want to recommend it because I felt like it just gave me a different outlook. It gave me a different perspective of how life is supposed to be hard. It's not meant to be easy, and not necessarily that has to be hard. I'm doing a great job of convincing you to read this book. But it just helped me realize like I'm so stressed out because I care so much about so many things. And if I could just relax, lean back, life would probably be a lot easier for me. So I feel like if you want a book, again, it was recommended to me by one of my doctors and I was hesitant to read it.

0:15:41.5 KD: But I will say I have consumed it rapidly and I've loved the thought of, again, it's not that you don't care and it's hard for me to put into words, which is why I'm going to recommend it. But it just really helped me realize how much stress I put on myself that's not benefiting myself. So again, fair warning. It does have a lot of explicitives. I truly feel like my entire family would blush that I recommended that book. But again, I thought long and hard on that book to see if I would recommend it or not. And I, again, if... And the F word definitely drives me crazy. I do not say it. It's not something in my vocabulary. So I'm definitely like, wow. But it has been such a mind change. Could you say a mind F on it? It's been a mind change for me that I feel if that's up your aisle, if it's something that you're looking for, it might be beneficial for some people.

0:16:35.5 KD: And then the last one is Letting Go by David R. Hawkins. And this book, if you guys remember, I talked about The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. He has another book out called Living Untethered. I actually got the opportunity to listen to him. The Untethered Soul was really a game changing book for me and just how... Again, it's going to be similar in the vein I was just speaking about, just a book on how to live my life very differently and live more freely and live more authentically and genuinely. But this one is in the same vein of that, The Letting Go book by David R. Hawkins. But I feel like it's a little bit easier to understand than Untethered Soul. So if you read Untethered Soul or you were thinking about it, this might be an easier segue in for you. But these are... Guys, people ask me all the time, "Kiera, you coach, when you do your consulting." It's not just dentistry, guys. It's so much life coaching. And I think that that's why I have such a passion for it. I love it because I think if I had to talk to you about dental systems all day long, I might want to poke my eyes out. But evolving you as people is truly where my passion's at. And I just get the vehicle of dentistry and systems to share with you as my starting place.

0:17:47.3 KD: And so this Letting Go, The Art of Surrender, The Untethered Soul, those are books that are to develop you as a person. They're not there to grow your business and to make you more profitable. I shared other ones that are for that. But I feel like if you are balanced as a person and you are happy as a person, your practice by default will flourish. So there's my top of books for right now, guys. I hope it was helpful. If you have any questions or you want to book club it up with me or you have questions on any of them, like I said, I feel like I threw in a few that were a little more dicey this round. But I just wanted to to share books again that have been life changing for me, for my clients that I feel are beneficial for you. Also, do me a solid, guys. Send in any good books that you are reading. I am obsessed with my CE junkies, my podcast listeners out there who are actively evolving themselves. Send it in. I would love for you to share with me, what books you're reading, because most of the books that I read now are truly from clients and from friends and from podcasts.

0:18:53.6 KD: And so if you guys want to share, be a part of it, email me in two things. One, do you want us to do a Dental A Team book club where we choose a book each month and share it with you? It could be for teams, it could be for personal development, could be on systems, whatever it is. But having a Dental A Team book club. Are you interested in that? Email me on that. And second, email me in one book that has been life changing for you. Guys, when I ask for this, I usually hear from three of you. There are over 50,000 of you. So don't be just a taker. Be a giver, guys. So [email protected]. I would love to hear from you. And as always, thanks for listening, guys. I'll catch you next time on the Dental A Team podcast.

0:19:34.5 KD: And that wraps it up for another episode of the Dental A Team podcast. Thank you so much for listening and we'll talk to you next time.
